NEW YORK — The reeling Yankees need Anthony Volpe to break out and live up to his lofty expectations, but the shortstop is busy having a disappointing third summer in pinstripes. With his 0-for-3 in Friday’s 6-5 loss to the Mets at Citi Field, the shortstop is now hitting .121 (8-for-66) in his last 19 games with 18 strikeouts.

Aaron Judge then stepped to the plate with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth and hit a shallow fly ball to center field that was caught by Julio Rodriguez, who attempted to throw out the tagging-up Volpe.
