Arson investigators continue probe into Long Island brush fires; firefighters returning to the scene
Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Commissioner Rudy Sunderman said the fire will not be considered completely "contained" until 10-foot breaks are built around the full perimeter of the fire, where combustible materials and elements are removed to prevent it from reigniting and spreading.
All 4 Long Island brush fires contained, 2 firefighters hurt, 2 buildings damaged
All four Long Island brush fires that sent soaring plumes of smoke into the air had been contained by Sunday afternoon, authorities said. Two firefighters were hurt battling the blazes and two commercial buildings were damaged, Newsday reported. No residential buildings were damaged; any earlier reports of burned homes were erroneous.
