Obermueller, a lefty pitcher from Iowa City, Iowa, was selected in the 19th round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers. Rather than join the MLB ranks, though, he decided to instead come back to Iowa City. That was a great decision.
Right-hander Anthony Watts is off the board on day two after being selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 14th round at pick No. 420. He joins fellow Iowa pitchers Cade Obermueller, Daniel Wright and Aaron Savary as 2025 MLB Draft selections.
Sergeant Bluff native and Iowa pitcher Daniel Wright was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 10th round. Wright had 20 strikeouts in his 18 appearances for the Hawkeyes last season and posted a 3.41 ERA. Prior to his time at Iowa, he played at Houston for two seasons.
