Data analyzed by the CBS News Crime Unit shows at least 50 law enforcement officers have been shot in ambush attacks so far this year.

A vigil outside the Lorain Police Department has grown steadily since Wednesday, when three officers were shot in an ambush-style attack.

Around 4 p.m. Friday, a procession was held from Cleveland to North Ridgeville in honor of Lorain police officer Phillip Wagner.

Lorain's community unites in grief as they honor Officer Phillip Wagner, whose life was lost in an ambush, while two fellow officers recover from their injuries.

The rain began to fall just before community members bowed their heads. What started as a gray, overcast summer evening turned into a downpour moments before a vigil began Thursday outside Lorain City Hall.

The gunman accused of ambushing three Lorain police officers had previously been cited by the officer killed following a 2022 crash.

LORAIN, Ohio (WOIO) - Investigators say shooting suspect Michael Joseph Parker, 28, of North Lakeview Boulevard, in Lorain was found with multiple high-powered rifles, handguns and large amounts of an explosive called Tannerite.

Bradley said he received a call from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, giving his "100% support" and offering whatever help he could provide to the Lorain Police Department. Bradley added that the office of U.S. Sen. Jon Husted had also sent a message pledging to give whatever help or assistance they could provide.
