U.S. stocks closed out Donald Trump’s first 100 days back in the Oval Office on a sour note, with the president’s trade policies taking the blame for derailing a thriving market and stoking fears the world’s largest economy could slip toward recession.

While trying to time the market can be an exercise in futility, there is something to be said for historical index performance depending on the month.

The stock market under Trump has seen one of its worst performances on record in the first 100 days of a U.S. presidency. It’s the worst start to a year since Gerald Ford took over for Richard Nixon 50 years ago,
