A surge in drone activity across Belgium and Europe has heightened fears of coordinated Russian hybrid operations

Brussels Zaventem Airport was temporarily closed on Tuesday night after a report of a drone in its airspace. The drone sighting, which occurred shortly before 8 p.m., prompted the suspension of all incoming and departing flights, a spokesperson for skeyes, Belgium's air traffic controller, told local media.

As a result of illegal drone activity near the airport on Tuesday evening and night forty flights from the main Belgian air hub are cancelled today, the airport authorities say. These include 16 departing and 24 arriving flights.
