Microsoft on Monday announced the availability of Azure Active Directory certificate-based authentication at the public preview stage.

Secureworks researchers found what they say is a serious vulnerability in an Azure Active Directory authentication method, but Microsoft says it should not pose a serious risk to users.

Both password hash synchronization and Active Directory Pass-through Authentication enable users to leverage the same password to log in to both on-premises and Azure AD integrated applications.

It's an alternative to using Microsoft's Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) or "other federation services to pass through claims to Azure AD," the announcement explained.
