Borussia Dortmund has signed Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka on loan until the end of the season. The loan deal includes an option to buy this upcoming summer worth around $40 million. The transfer was concluded just in time for the winter transfer window to close for Bundesliga clubs on Monday afternoon.

Chukwuemeka, 21, has not featured in the Premier League for Chelsea this season and has only started one match in the Conference League.

Carney Chukwuemeka looks set to spend at least the rest of the season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, though it could turn into a longer stay as well with reports of a buy-option north of £40m also included in the deal.

The 21-year-old signed from Aston Villa in August 2022 and has made 32 appearances to date, scoring two goals.

Chukwuemeka was one of the first signings of this new BlueCo era, and an early sign of the club’s new m.o. in playing the transfer market. We paid Aston Villa £20m for his signature in 2022; I’m sure the spreadsheet are smiling at the possibility of that buy-option being exercised.
