Officials say a 34,000-gallon chemical tank at GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove is actively in crisis, prompting urgent evacuations over explosion fears.

Emergency crews are sending an urgent warning that a chemical leak coming from a large storage tank at a Garden Grove aerospace facility could cause a spill or explosion.

Firefighters initially responded to the aerospace company, in the 12100 block of Western Avenue Thursday for a vapor release after a tank’s temperature increased.

'This thing is going to fail. We don't know when,' Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Craig Covey warned during a tense emergency briefing Friday.
