Moderate Mayor Daniel Lurie has leaned on personal ties to business execs to revamp the city, but they could be facing a backlash.

Mayor Daniel Lurie of San Francisco on Wednesday named Derrick Lew, a veteran officer, to be the city’s next police chief. Mr. Lew’s appointment, by a mayor who had made cracking down on crime and reducing homelessness staples of his platform, comes months after President Trump floated the possibility of sending National Guard troops to the city.

Crews extinguished the fire by 2:26 p.m., and the fire department said it and the police department would be investigating, as there was a death during the incident.
