Spanish gov't lays blame for Iberian blackout on Spanish grid operator
A government investigation found that efforts by Red Eléctrica de España, Spain's grid operator, to address a small instability in the system actually led to more severe issues, causing a self-reinforcing cascade where high voltages caused power plants to drop off the grid.
The massive power outage that swept across Spain and the larger Iberian Peninsula in late April was caused by multiple technical and planning failures, according to a report released on Tuesday.
The Spanish government ruled out a cyberattack, saying that a series of failures led to the nationwide blackout in April.
