Microsoft decided to shut down Skype to focus its resources on developing its Microsoft Teams app, which includes the services that Skype provided plus more.

After nearly 22 years of connecting people across the globe, Skype is shutting down on May 5, marking the end of an era for one of the pioneers of internet communication.

Skype, the online video-calling service, has shut down after more than two decades. The platform revolutionised video calling and, as some (The Verge) say, “saw the future of video messaging before almost everyone”.
