Gov. Greg Abbott is the only elected official in Texas standing in the way of banning THC, in opposition to law enforcement and victims, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and most Republicans in the state legislature argue.

The Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs heard hours of public testimony on Tuesday, July 22, for the newly drafted bill to ban THC in Texas, which is very similar to the bill that Abbott vetoed in the sense that it calls for a total THC ban.

The medical marijuana industry could not be more excited about a ban on retail THC sales. Nico Richardson, CEO of the dominant dispensary Texas Originals and a managing director of the venture capital firm behind it, called on lawmakers to reinforce their THC monopoly through the Texas Compassionate Use Program.
