Thousands of people have been displaced since wildfires sparked in Southern California, and some of them have roots in Oklahoma.

A popular Oklahoma City bar and restaurant will host a fundraiser to support those affected by the recent devastating wildfires in southern California.

Snow will turn into sleet and freezing rain along parts of the Southeast, as well as southern Arkansas, the weather service reported. Forecasters warn that icy conditions, between a tenth and a quarter inch of ice, will make travel dangerous for many. Power outages and downed branches are also a concern.

The American Red Cross sent five volunteers from Kansas and two from Oklahoma to southern California to help wildfire evacuees and survivors. The volunteers left Friday and are staying for two weeks.

Fires across the Los Angeles area have killed at least 24 people, destroyed more than 12,000 structures and scorched more than 60 square miles. The largest by far — the Palisades and Eaton wildfires — continue to burn in Southern California,

California is typically ranked as the second most expensive state to live in, after Hawaii, with costs averaging around 30% higher than the rest of the U.S., per U.S. News & World Report. The state has the highest individual tax rate and the highest gas tax, 68 cents a gallon in 2024.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Jalon Moore scored 22 points and Oklahoma pulled away in the second half to beat South Carolina 82-62 on Saturday. Moore made 6 of 10 shots from the floor and 10 of 11 at the free-throw line for the Sooners (14-4, 1-4 Southeastern Conference). He added eight rebounds.

South Carolina was on the road at Oklahoma on Saturday still searching for its first SEC win. The Sooners, after starting the season 13-0, were in the same boat.

Rob Ryan has left the NFL to join Southern California as its assistant head coach for defense and linebackers, the school announced on Saturday. Ryan, 62, spent 24 of his 35 years of coaching in the NFL.

Bryce Thompson and Marchelus Avery each scored 15 points to lead Oklahoma State to an 83-73 win over Colorado in Big 12 play on Saturday in Stillwater, Okla.

“Rob Ryan, a former NFL defensive coordinator and brother of Rex Ryan, has been named USC’s linebackers coach and assistant head coach,” Kartje wrote on Twitter. “ D’Anton Lynn knows the Ryan family well. Rex was a longtime mentor to Lynn, and now his brother joins Lynn on USC’s staff.”

Longtime NFL defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has been named Southern California's assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach. USC head coach Lincoln Riley announced the addition to his staff Saturday.
