It will still be a tight finish for Ovechkin with just 25 games remaining in the regular season and still needing 14 goals to pass Gretzky.
The Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin defeated the Edmonton Oilers 7-3 Sunday afternoon at the Capital One Arena.
Ovechkin commenced his career with two goals in his first game on NHL ice when Washington Capitals faced off against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Oct. 5, 2005. Since then, he has racked up tons of goals, so much so that he's now on track to pass Wayne Gretzky’s goal record of 894 this season.
