Democrats from the Texas Legislature met with Gov. Gavin Newsom in Sacramento to discuss President Trump's push to redistrict the Lone Star State and alter the outcome of the midterm elections.
The Texas lawmakers met with the Democratic governors to discuss Gov. Greg Abbott's efforts to redraw the state's congressional maps, an effort President Donald Trump hopes can produce five additional seats in Congress in time for next year's midterms to help keep GOP control on Capitol Hill.
California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a warning to President Donald Trump and Texas Republicans amid growing attempts at redrawing Texas's congressional districts to further favor Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterms. A spokesperson for Newsom told Newsweek his office is "closely tracking what Texas does" and "exploring potential options."
After Texas' governor announced redistricting plans, Gavin Newsom suggested California could respond, but the state's laws would make any counter moves difficult.
