Mariners fans got a solid first impression of the former 12th-round draft pick after he earned a win in his first big league start.

Evans was named to the Seattle Mariners’ 40-man roster and got the nod to start against the Miami Marlins on Sunday, giving the rookie right-hander little time to get out any jitters. After forcing two ground outs to start the game, the former Saline baseball star gave up a home run in the first inning to Miami Marlins’ slugger Austin Ramirez.

Logan Evans tossed five strong innings in his MLB debut against Miami and the Mariners moved into sole possession of first place in the AL West with a 7-6 win.
