MMA Fighting on MSNMax Holloway welcomes chance to recreate viral UFC 300 moment and play ‘spoiler’ for Dustin Poirier’s retirementMax Holloway is no stranger to creating viral moments whenever he sets foot in the octagon, but it’s hard to deny his last-second knockout over Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 is probably his most memorable.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Holloway (26-8 MMA, 22-8 UFC) requested to be removed from the 145-pound standings since he has no intention of dropping back down. Holloway's most recent appearance came in a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in their featherweight title fight at UFC 308.
Holloway shared the Octagon with Topuria at UFC 308 and ended up suffering his first knockout loss. It was a successful UFC Featherweight Championship for “El Matador,” who moved on to capture the lightweight gold by knocking out Chares Oliveira.
Former UFC fighter Din Thomas says he was on the broadcast desk with Poirier when Holloway got knocked out by Topuria at UFC 308, detailing his reaction. “Watching Dustin watch Max Holloway fight was like watching a brother fight,” Thomas said on One On One with Laura Sanko.
The segment takes a special look at the BMF title fight between former featherweight champion Max Holloway (26-8 MMA, 22-8 UFC) and former interim lightweight champ Dustin Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC). Poirier has two wins over Holloway already – and will retire after the fight in front of his home fans in Louisiana.
