Fire activity on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon has forced the closure of several trails and campgrounds. Meanwhile, life goes on at the South Rim where tourists endured a smokey visit Monday.
The Grand Canyon Lodge, which burned in the Dragon Bravo Fire over the weekend of July 12-13, was on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Crews fighting a wildfire were focused on stopping the flames from consuming nearby cabins, a water pumping station, mule stables and other structures, fire officials said.
On July 10, lightning strikes ignited fires on both the north and south rims of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, leading to the entire park’s evacuation. Hot weather, gusty winds and dangerously low humidity helped fuel the fire’s growth, leading to more evacuations Saturday. The fire has been dubbed the South Rim Fire
