As firefighters gain more control on the Canyon Fire, some residents are relieved the flames didn't reach their homes.

The Canyon Fire has burned nearly 5,000 acres in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, where evacuation orders and warnings were issued for several areas. The fire was burning east, away from the community of Piru and toward the Los Angeles County community of Castaic,
