Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora gets real about the signing of former Washington Nationals slugger Natheniel Lowe.
A disappointing season for Red Sox’s righty Walker Buehler continued on Tuesday. He only completed four innings while allowing four hits and as many walks in a home loss to the Orioles. It was the fourth time in his past five outings that Buehler issued at least three free passes, and his season earned run average is up to 5.40 across 22 starts.
Cora's protestations began in the top of the sixth inning with Astros righthander Hunter Brown on the mound. After Brown walked Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, he was called for a balk. Two batters later, Brown switched from the full windup to the stretch mid at-bat, prompting the Red Sox to object to ultimately no avail.
Sox manager Alex Cora held a post-game press conference to talk about the loss, and explain their grievous mistake: They had Nate Eaton pinch run as the game-tying run in extra innings on third, and didn’t send him on a pop fly by Roman Anthony.
