A Metro Police officer was arrested Tuesday on charges including driving under the influence and multiple traffic violations, officials said this morning.

A Washington County man will spend up to 11 years in prison after his 12th DUI conviction. According to the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, 68-year-old William Strogish of Ellsworth was sentenced to five-to-11 years in prison for an accident that injured three motorcyclists in 2023.

A driver who reportedly failed a sobriety test after he hit and killed a motorcyclist was only charged with driving under the influence and not death, according to court records.

It's been nearly four months since a father of eight in Colorado was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver.

Police will be on the lookout for drunk drivers in the Sacramento area - as well as those without valid driver's licenses. The Elk Grove Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint at "an undisclosed location within the city limits" starting Friday, July 18, the agency said in a news release.

At the time of the 2023 crash, the man was designated as a habitual offender and had not had a valid driver's license since 1976.
