The Trump administration has renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, but most of the body of water lies outside maritime regions controlled by the United States.

After announcing it would be renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, Google has officially changed on its Maps application.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Trump's decree is restricted to the “continental shelf of the United States” because Mexico still controls much of the Gulf.
