The 153rd edition of the British Open is underway at Royal Portrush. Padraig Harrington of Ireland had the honor of the opening tee shot. That was a fitting choice.

The jug goes to the winner of the Open Championship, who is otherwise known as the champion golfer of the year. The face belongs to Shane Lowry, who won the Open in 2019, the last time it was played in Portrush, a seaside town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

There are nine golfers within a stroke of the leader after the first round of The Open Championship. The second round tees of Friday.

The PGA Tour's Open Championship begins on Thursday in Scotland, where the top players on tour will compete at the Royal Portrush Golf Club's Dunluce Course.
