Sammy Smith bagged the win at Rockingham despite finishing behind Jesse Love. The latter was disqualified because of a rear suspension violation. Love, however, made amends with a strong showing at Talladega,

Sammy Smith, who finished second to Love, was declared the winner. Peterson said Smith’s car went through post-race inspection as well and passed. Smith and his crew chief were still at the track when NASCAR’s ruling was issued. They decided to remain at Rockingham Speedway when they realized there apparently was a problem.
