Thousands of FirstEnergy customers are without power after severe thunderstorms moved through the area on Monday evening.
CHICAGO - A severe weather threat Monday for Chicagoland has passed for now. Severe weather threats were canceled shortly after 1:30 p.m. Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Hammond (IN), Calumet City (IL), and Merrillville (IN) until 2:15 p.m. Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Chicago, Oak Lawn and Blue Island until 1:30 p.m.
As severe thunderstorms blow through the Twin Cities metro, bringing strong winds, heavy rain and large hail, there are currently more than 51,000 households without power, according to Xcel Energy's outage map, and around 57,500 Xcel customers without power statewide.
NWS meteorologist Melissa Dye said severe thunderstorms will most likely take place after 7 p.m., but that the weather is currently a “fluid situation.”
The National Weather Service released a severe thunderstorm warning at 9:30 p.m. on Monday in effect until 10 p.m. for Klamath County.

On Saturday at 7:16 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 7:30 p.m. for Armstrong, Indiana and Westmoreland counties.
The thunderstorm risk level went from enhanced to moderate for the area, with timing now pushed back to between 5 p.m. and 1 a.m.
