Tony Vitello, who has built a power program in Tennessee, described the struggles the Cardinals' top pick had in fall, promise another Cardinals' pick showed in the spring.

With the fifth overall pick of the MLB Draft, the Cardinals selected Liam Doyle. Before the draft, Doyle was compared to reigning Cy Young Winner Tarik Skubal.

Three Vanderbilt players were drafted in the first three rounds. Pitcher JD Thompson was chosen in the second round (No. 59 overall to Milwaukee). Outfielder RJ Austin was selected in the third round (No. 93 to Baltimore), as was pitcher Cody Bowker (No. 100 to Philadelphia).

Shortly after the end of the Vols' season, head coach Tony Vitello noted that he planned to be "more aggressive" in the transfer portal (which Vitello has followed through on). That comment seemed to indicate that Vitello and the Vols were bitter about the way the 2025 season.
