Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Commissioner Rudy Sunderman said the fire will not be considered completely "contained" until 10-foot breaks are built around the full perimeter of the fire, where combustible materials and elements are removed to prevent it from reigniting and spreading.

Arson could be the cause of several wind-driven brush fires that burned on New York’s Long Island over the weekend, injuring two firefighters and sending large smoke plumes into the air, officials said.

Residents on Long Island are still shaken from the smoke and flames that dominated the skies over the weekend, but dozens of volunteer fire crews were able to get the upper hand to control the brushfires.

At least two commercial structures have burned down, Suffolk County officials said. One firefighter suffered second-degree burns in the blazes.
