Frozen into the McMurdo Sound sea ice is the observation tube. This piece of metal lets people on station crawl through the ice and see what secrets lie beneath. You can see the underside of the ice sheet, with different colors of ice algae growing on it and cracks spreading through. Small icefishes and sea angels swim around the “ob tube” incorporating you into their cold world. As a diver here I always want more people to experience where I’m privileged enough to explore.
