🐦DYK that nearly all of the world's last wild Whooping Cranes depend on the wetlands of the Boreal Forest to breed? Once facing near extinction – only about 20 remained in the 1940s – these birds now nearly number 600, thanks to conservation efforts. During the summer months, they migrate to the lush, food-rich wetlands of the northern boreal, where they will breed, nest, and raise their young before heading all the way down to Texas for the winter months.
