All aboard the steam dream from Watchet 🚂 Here’s the moment the engine whistles and rolls out of Watchet station, our small Somerset harbour town with big railway history. Did you know this line first opened in 1862, with Watchet as its original terminus?  The line was extended to Minehead in 1874, linking the coast towns via what became the @westsomersetrailway  Watchet itself once handled freight from the harbour - iron ore, timber, paper - before those sidings were lifted mid-20th century.
