In the 1980s, Charlie Daniels began weaving gospel choirs into his live shows, especially at Volunteer Jam and Southern arena dates. Backing him on songs like “Amazing Grace” or “How Great Thou Art,” the choirs brought a revival feel to his hard-charging Southern rock sets. It wasn’t every night, but when it happened, it turned the stage into part concert, part church service—with Daniels’ faith front and center.
