The traditional interpretation of the song “Went to See The Gypsy”, from New Morning, is that it describes a meeting between Dylan and Elvis. There is a reference to “he did it in Las Vegas, and he can do it here”, and Elvis is often associated with his shows in Vegas, so that would support this interpretation. However: we all know that Dylan often speaks in symbolism and allegory. I believe the Gypsy might well be DYLAN HIMSELF, or at least the “old” Dylan of the 1960s. At the time New Morning
